I have a slightly different take on this matter.
First, Brother Rothwell is a arch-fundamentalist, KJV-only, stone age Baptist of the worst kind, much like Brother David. He’s on Guam as a missionary. A missionary, you ask? Yes. These uber-conservative Bapists regard anybody who’s not like them, i.e. Catholics and even Baptists like Harvest Baptist (Guam) to be non-christian, unsaved, almost heathen souls who have to be brought to Jesus, born again, and saved. He’s been on Guam for 5-6 years (or longer) and doesn’t seem to be making much headway. I can only imagine the other Baptist churches on Guam, some of which are certainly mainstream, aren’t all too pleased about his mission to convert their members to the true faith.
Second, David wants an audience. Hence his “ministries”, his steel guitar websites and Youtube channel(s). But in a living room “church” with maybe 25 members, who are probably either older Chamorro or US Army, he won’t be finding an audience, a family, and certainly not a wife.
Third, it’s very possible that Brother Rothwell has been warned about Brother David but doesn’t want to kick him out based on what others say, yet still keeps him at arm’s length, especially where his daughters are concerned.
So, David just might be slightly discouraged by the whole situation. He’s not attending Rothwell’s living room services for Jesus, he’s attending them for himself and “ain’t getting no satisfation.” Hence his willingness to take aim at Brother Rothwell and jump down his throat for any and everything he sees that is not 100,000,000% to his liking.
