Remember, folks: with the rise of child psychologists we've seen the rise of medicated children, child anxiety, self harm, and suicide.
Heck, many kids these days don't even know if they're a boy or girl.
Thank your local child psychologist, next time you seem him.

Remember, folks: now we can recognize, treat and deal with all sorts of things for which primitives like Christine Wright would've just prescribed a savage beating; meaning more kids grow into happy, healthy adults instead of offing themselves and maybe their tormentors.
“Remember, folks:”
No one ever posts the obvious after this, it’s always spin.
I mean, search the blogs, does anyone post ‘Remember, folks, the sun rises in the east’ or ‘rightie-tightie, leftie-loosie.’?

You know that the whole family used to get stigmatized when someone committed suicide, right? More than a few suicides were covered up by the coroner so as not to bring shame on the rest of the family.
Same with a botched abortion, actually.
And teen pregnancies. The daughter, maybe others, went to visit ‘family’ for a few months, then came back with a new ‘sister.’
If the numbers went up, you can’t be sure if it’s the numbers that changed, or just our knowledge of the facts.
It’s possible that there is more child anxiety, depression, etc, because more children are surviving in general. Remember, folks, if your child dies of polio or diphtheria or measles, they aren’t going to need meds for depression or anxiety!
As for the rest, like others have said, we actually talk about these things nowadays and deal with them instead of telling the kid to shut up or “I’ll give you something to cry about!!”
I was only diagnosed with ASD at age 16, rather late for most people. Yet me and my parents were relieved that we finally had a name for my neurodivergent behavior and could thus adjust our lives accordingly.
In other words, go die in a fire.

Misrepresentation, false attribution, anti-medicine Big Pharma conspiracy theories. Harmful disinformation.

Reveals that it's a more general society rejection problem, for bigotry and moral panic. Personal issues they would like to become generalized doctrine. Hate speech against those that don't conform to their prude ideals and by extension, everything that doesn't want to suppress them.

And of course, awareness and capacity to diagnose previously misunderstood conditions or situations. The OP argument is a type of slippery slope for moral panic, just like they push against transpeople because the minority is no longer forced to remain invisible (even if it always existed and will never explode). Similarly, the Jehovah's Witnesses misconstrue the fact that we detect and report earthquakes more effectively as a sudden earthquake epidemic, to claim that an Apocalypse prophecy is realizing...
I realize that the thread is oldish and that this post might not necessarily be noticed, though. And I know that you already know, it's for FSTDT archives. :)
