This entity, the independent, international city-state of Washington, DC, sits in the middle of the District of Columbia as a foreign country plopped down in the middle of a foreign territory known as the District of Columbia, which is itself situated in the middle of our Eastern Seaboard on land actually owned by our States, Virginia and Maryland.

Perhaps I’m stating the obvious, but there’s a few things wrong with that statement. What the hell does it even mean to say that an “independent state” is “international”? And how is Washington, DC “plopped down in the middle of” the District of Columbia (aka DC)? They occupy the same exact space. That’s like saying the state of Michigan is plopped down in the middle of the state of Michigan.

And if I’m remembering my history correctly, Washington DC USED to take up part of the land on the other side of the Potomac River that is now part of Virginia, but as a look at any map will tell you, that is no longer so.

Ask anyone who has been legitimately homeless and has had to be in a shelter, a lot of them will vouch that a majority portion of homeless aren't "sad, down on their luck, poor unfortunate souls" but instead drug addicted assholes who accost you and just piss and shit all over the place with no moral human decency left in them.

I have said it before here, I have been homeless and have been in shelters on a few occasions. (what is “legitimately homeless” anyway? As opposed to “illegitimately homeless” whatever the hell that is?) OK, sure, there were some “drug addicted assholes” in those places, as well as assholes who weren’t addicts. Or ya know, even drug-addicted people who totally were NOT assholes. I never met anyone there who would “piss and shit all over place” though, as any shelter I’ve ever been in would kick someone out quickly for doing such things. Fuck, I even had one time where the people who ran the place were convinced I was smoking cigarettes inside and threatened me with being kicked out. (still can’t believe that one, but thats a different story lol)

OK, whoa whoa whoa, back the damn ~~truck~~ DeLorean up there for a moment. Back To The Future is one of my favorite movies of all time. I’m not totally sure, but I’d bet I’ve watched it more than any other movie I’ve ever seen. Ya know, it’s one of the small handful of movies where I can just about recite all the lines as I’m watching it. And I honestly don’t know how in the flying fuck you can call that a “mostly conservative film” or even a “mostly liberal” one either, for that matter!

Good point that I didn’t think of on first reading that post! I myself have French-Canadian ancestry on my mom’s side. There’s a commune (what we’d call a “township” in the US, I think) in southern France with the same name as my grandma’s maiden name. I’m guessing her or her ancestors in Canada or especially in France didn’t think of themselves at “British!”

Well, I’m an atheist, and I’ve never once bought a Christmas tree, and I’ve never bought gifts for my children. That would be somewhat difficult, due to them having a slight case of not existing. I do certainly participate in Christmas festivities with various family members, and even buy them gifts.
