Smoking, by the way, is not a health crisis. When’s the last time you heard of someone dying from smoking? People die from vaccines and obesity all the time
Ok, let’s see…
Louis Armstrong, heart attack. Advertised camels
Desi Arnaz, lung cancer, and Lucille Ball, aortic aneurysm. Advertised Phillip Morris
James Baldwin, esophageal cancer
Count Basie, pancreatic cancer. Advertised Camels.
Jack Benny, pancreatic cancer.
Humphrey Bogart, esophageal cancer.
David Bowie, liver cancer.
Yul Brynner, lung cancer. Made an anti-smoking commercial after diagnosis. It aired after his death.
There are literally hundreds more, and that’s just famous people from the last 90 or so years. It is thought to have caused around 100 million premature deaths over the course of the last century.
A personal story: my mom was a smoker for 11 years. My dad also smoked, but only for the year and a half he was stationed on the Korean border and it doesn’t appear to have affected him. But my mom smoked from the time she turned 18 until she got pregnant with me at 29. Evidently smoking while pregnant made her so sick she had to stop. I used to joke that I saved her life. But about two years ago she was having trouble breathing and they found she had some kind of nodules in her lungs. I forgot what they were called. There were only two and they were small and have since been treated and are gone. But that was a terrifying time for all of us, and those things were 99% likely caused by smoking.
Fuck you, Snake.
