To be fair, even if you need a tiny amount of external energy to start a perpetual motion machine, it still would count as one as long as it can keep running indefinitely afterwards. Though I HIGHLY doubt that was what said “plans” meant.

On a side note, I remember during a physics class that our teacher once explained the concept of the perpetuum mobile. A classmate then proceeded to ask if such athing actually existed. I had to carefully (as in, I tried not to be condescending) explain to her why that simply couldn’t be.

Ignoring the fact that a perpetual motion machine by definition breaks the most basic first law of thermodynamics (energy and matter cannot be created nor destroyed, only converted), you’d think that if someone were to somehow invent one they’d be rich and famous beyond belief and it would make all nuclear power plants (already controversial enough) obsolete and it brings technology to a new golden age…

Sorry for being late with this. My condolences, Bastethotep. I also lost my grandfather a few years ago. While we weren’t that close (his increasing dementia in his later years made it harder to connect) I certainly was quite shocked at the news. It was the first relative I’ve ever experienced losing, after all.
