Let me let you in on a little something: An ally assumes that role with no expectation to receive anything in return, except for members of the allied group to treat them as individuals in the same manner they each normally treat others they are on friendly terms with. Any unexpressed expectation beyond that, including reciprocated allyship, is an ulterior motive. You are assuming the role of an emotional blackmailer attempting to target an entire oppressed minority, not an ally. If you actually approach a group of minority members with an explicit list of expectations you personally demand of them for receiving your minority’s allyship, you’re probably having another psychotic episode, sweetheart.
Do you think I am an ally to Black people because the overwhelming majority of them showed a massive outpouring of love and support for the gay community at the height of the HIV/AIDS crisis? Or because a much larger proportion of them voted against Prop 8 than white people? Because that is literally the exact opposite of what actually happened in both cases. Did that make me stop trying to be an ally and tell them they could all fuck off back into slavery for all I care? No, because my being an ally is not dependent on them returning the favor, and the systemic oppression and discrimination they face is wrong, regardless of the oppression and discrimination I face as a different minority or whether they participate in it.
I’m not even going to touch the rest of this. If you want a play-by-play analysis of it, show it to your Axis II ally at your next appointment.
