The Japanese have had their own shorthand for this kind of shit for decades: Karoshi or “overwork death” loosely translated. The severity of their work culture is a frequent theme in their psychological horror genre as is quite ironically a longstanding cultural rejection of the reality and importance of mental health care and just how much worse that makes things. And unless you’ve been living in your own little world oblivious to the absolute nightmare the rest of us have been putting up with IT’S BEEN A STRESSFUL FEW YEARS ESPECIALLY WHERE MONEY IS CONCERNED so anything that threatens the recovery of the economy, like oh say the current unending clusterfuck that is the global poltical situation right now especially concentrated in your madhouse election brings that stress back full force.
Oh right, you have been living in your own little world. One where disease is imaginary, tax breaks above your income bracket cause money to rain from the sky, there are twenty times as many illegal immigrants as citizens, and all the laws that are inconvenient to your infallible God Emperor who is not an inept loser that tanked your economy before the pandemic even hit and isn’t breaking several laws a day very publicly while constantly holding his hand out for your money like the world’s most prolific panhandler are simply a myth. Well rub the sleep out of your eyes and pay attention or commit fully to the delusion and leave reality to the grownups.
Welcome to your very near future if health benefits and protections against workplace exploitation keep getting rolled back at the rate they are. Those deaths will be even more common than mass shootings. That and suicides.
Seriously, it’s a fucking problem over there. One you should have already learned from because it was also a problem during the Great Depression that’s why workers couldn’t take working to literal death on starvation wages in hazardous conditions that were always EVEN WORSE for child labourers and shut your damned country down to get that social safety net that bounced you back from the brink into your economic heyday but in defiance of all sense you’ve been slowly dismantling ever since.
