31 years old myself. While “pretty happy” is a bit of a strong term, I would still say I’m content with my (autistic) life currently(*). And in the end, isn’t that what matters more? Certainly beats dying painfully or, worse, being physically crippled or blind or something for life because of a disease that could have been prevented.

(*)I certainly like to believe I’m still much happier with life than most neurotypical, bigoted, angry right-wing fundies who burst a blood vessel over anything remotely “different” than them.

I remember that one, “Relics”, wasn’t it? Fun fact, but that plot line actually gets revisited in the MMO “Star Trek Online”.

Personally I always found it a wasted opportunity from ST not to revisit that in the show itself. You’d think that an intact DS would have immeasurable research potential for Starfleet for decades to come. At the very least Discovery S5 is bothering to put a close to another TNG episode with an abandoned (yet full-of-potential) plotline.

Fun fact, but some people might argue that any civilization advanced enough to actually build a Dyson Sphere would have no actual need for one (the biggest pro of a DS is to maximize the energy absorption of a star’s total output). So building dozens of DS’ seems like a very inefficient use of resources and time.

Not saying that building a DS is impossible, but I just don’t think that anyone would bother to build so many…

Anyway, I admit I have fantasized/hypothesized that the “final evolution” of an advanced species could be uploading your entire civilization in immortal digital forms stored in a Matrioshka brain-type DS. But I’m still not acting like that is confirmed reality…
