I think the more worrisome bit is that to them, the Boring Invincible Hero is the proper standard precisely because he’s (putatively) perfect. I don’t remember if this kind of national standard is on Umberto Eco’s list of ur-fascist traits.
Granted the BIH has a good deal of literary legacy, at least all the way back to Marduk (not sure why the Enuma Elish bothered to show him inventing those new weapons when he only needed his winds to defeat Tiamat...Did the poet forget to have the other Anunnaki use them to defeat Tiamat’s progeny?), and is probably more about overawing any rivals by proxy than actual artistry. Too bad, because I’m wondering if the Enuma Elish might have room for an Alternative Character Interpretation about who the actual villain is.
Not Tiamat. Not Apsu. Not Marduk.
Qingu, who helped start the whole conflict in the first place with his encouragement of Apsu and Tiamat to attack the Anunnaki, likely to get the Tablets of Destiny for himself. For even more fun, his name translates to “unspecialized worker”. The Greek of the same is “Demiurgos”...
