I cautioned my son that he may want to reconsider this label if he really wants to get a career in music as this decision may limit the band’s appeal to a variety of audiences.
Uhhh… limited audiences…
You mean like Queen’s ‘limited audiences’? Yeah, they’re totally not popular. Not at all. Neither are Little Richard, David Bowie, Tchaikovsky, the Indigo Girls, Elton John, Lil Nas X, Chappell Roan, Frank Ocean, Boy George, Lady Gaga, Prince, George Michael, Ricky Martin, Barry Manilow, Liberace, RuPaul, Janelle Monáe, Jamila Woods, Tyler the Creator, Leonard Bernstein, Rob Halford, Clay Aiken, Rufus Wainwright, Sam Smith, Sinead O’Connor, Phil Oakey, the San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus, the many other GALA choruses, and the list goes on and on. (/sarcasm)
LGBTQIAA2S+ people have had a massive impact on music. Our contributions are immeasurable. YOU feel like your child and their band being queer will limit their audience because YOU personally would be put off by an LGBTQIAA2S+ musician. This is YOUR prejudice rearing its ugly head and you are projecting it onto everyone else.
Like all parents in this nightmare, we grieve every holiday and birthday. I grit my teeth and smile as my mom friends share the joyful news of their children getting their dream jobs, getting married, having babies.
Oh cry me a fucking river. Your child sounds like they are happy. They are likely living it up. And believe me, rock n’ roll band is a dream job for many, very much likely including your child. Why can’t you people just be happy for your kids instead of wishing they would live up to this false image you have of them? Your child is a person, not a fucking doll, so just let them be.
He really seemed to come into his own.
They likely are coming into their own. So why can’t you just stop your fucking meddling and bigotry and just let them become the person they want to be?
In a slightly off-topic but personal good news story, my mom has finally accepted that I am bi. My dad accepted it long ago, and now after 30 years of her trying to force me back into the closet, she has finally come to terms with it and accepted me as a whole person now too. And our relationship has been getting better ever since.
