After that, it might be immediate or it might be a few seconds or it might be a minute. The reason for that being an automated system to prevent gridlock, the same system which operates traffic lights in general. Because of something like this happening. Not that the planners would have been thinking of this exactly, but sometimes there’s an event on and the pavements are full of people.

Since this was London, the pavements would have been full of people anyway, as they are all the time apart from about 2 AM - 6 AM. So it is unlikely this stupid protest made the slightest bit of difference.
