“One article of men’s clothing that is sadly on the decline is the necktie.”
Praise Carrie from whome all blessings flow.
“This abandonment reflects a refusal to accept any restrictions, discipline or discomfort in clothing or presentation.”
‘refusal’ is a bit over the top. I don’t wear a tie if I don’t see the customer. When i present our information to the Navy, I wear a tie. It’s expected. But it is uncomfortable.
"Many want to feel comfortable at any cost, even if undignified.”
One of my division officers in the Navy had a plan to get his self-respect back after his tour. Suck eggs out of chickens or blow goats for a nickel a herd. I’ve been far more undignified than not wearing a tie, frankly. We all were. Sometimes being undignified is kinda critical to success.
“Comfort and informality are today’s fashion gods.”
Again, a bit over the top. People are just asking, ‘do i really need this piece of fabric to do the job that’s expected of me?’
“The necktie is one major casualty of the war on good taste and formality.”
Everything is a god or a casualty with you, isn’t it?
Why would anyone else care about your fashion tastes, though?
"A person wearing a necktie stands out in a crowd today.”
Not when I wear it. All the contractors are wearing ties. It’s kinda expected.
But I STILL have to ask, why is the tie necessary? Just because stick-up-ass cheeseheads expect it?
“The necktie…forces the head to be in an erect and dignified position.”
Heh. No, it does not.
"The open collar conveys a sense that nothing is really important. The individual’s self-interest and comfort reign supreme.”
Ah. See, that’s your subjective bitching all over again.
My company works for the Navy for nuclear weapons. Our sustained superior performance certainly shows how serious we take our jobe and how important we find it. And a tie is not necessary to actually perform my job to the exacting standards we have helped create.
"Elevated dress encourages good and elegant behavior.”
All i can think of is how i look when I’m working, vs. how a televangelist looks, you know those guys keep getting arrested for child abuse, child porn, child trafficking?
Fuck your shallow impressions sideways.
“Wearing a tie in a tieless world requires courage and personality. Such a man does not go along with the fads and fashions of the world. He knows how to assert himself.”
Fine, he knows how to look. That’s not directly connected to his work ethic, productivity, or even his lawful behavior. Kent Hoving wore a tie and is a convicted felon. So is Trump.
“The tie was a small detail in a Christian civilization. Those seeking to do something to oppose the destruction of good customs would do well to get a tie and learn how to tie it. Stand out from the crowd. Be part of that restoration of a Christian order that is sacral, austere, anti-egalitarian and anti-liberal.”
OR NOT worry about appearances, and actually examine your productivity, your adherence to policies, your careful attention to details.
And throw bottles of ink at people wearing ties just for teh sake of the ties.
