I am not saying actual people who have rare cases of gender dysphoria won't exist, but they would be rightly categorized as Mentally ill, like they showed in the movie Silence of the Lambs,
Yet more evidence of how much damage such representations of us have done, even though in this particular case it is explicitly stated in-movie that the character in question is not transgender. But does that stop anyone from seeing it that way anyway? No. -_-
But in the SM age, we get pandering where the CEO of an Endometriosis charity is a TiM, and Period Products are being advertised by a TiM
Normal people: “Whoa, that’s great! Here we have trans women working for the benefit of cis women and trans men, even though it’s not a service or product that they personally have need of!”
TERFs (Trump voice): “STOP THE STEAL!!! SKINWALKERS!!1!”
While the TiM indulgence I think is essentially a byproduct of increased social media pandering where everyone is concerned by the backlash they would receive, not IRL, but on SM.
Which is totally why my IRL cis woman friend is the most wonderfully accepting person when it comes to my transness, and it’s so obviously unforced and casual that it warms the heart. But yeah, I’m totes sure that she’s just afraid that I’ll denounce her on Facebook. Suuure.
"Non binary", "demisexual" and all other "genders" and new "sexualities" were literally invented on the internet less than 20 years ago. They did not exist when I was a kid or even a teenager, and they certainly didn't exist in our parents or grandparents days.
And identifying as “lesbian,” “homosexual,” “bisexual,” “gay”… came about quite recently as well (as opposed to just doing your buggery and sodomy when nobody was looking, like proper “normal, respectful people” did). So what?
We make up new terms to describe not just new things, but also old phenomena that we had no name for or which old terms no longer suffice for… all the time. That doesn’t mean the things being described suddenly only popped into being when someone created a modern word for it.
"Transgender" existed, but certainly not in the way it does today, and you can see that if you watch or read any type of media created before the 21st century. They were portrayed as the "weirdos" on the fringe of society (rightly so), thought to be "extremely gay", and you'd be hard pressed to ever see a TIF - it was all TIMs, because, as many have said before, up until the 21st century, the only "trans" people were male - self hating gay men and straight male perverts with a fetish.
For a moment there, she seemed to be on the edge of awareness and realization, but she’s a gender-critter, so nope! You gotta bury your head into the ground deeper!
Social media has done more harm than good, and I'd love nothing more than for it to be eradicated and for us to return to a pre-internet era. Thanks to the "wonders" of the internet, we are all now dumber as a species, unable to read, think, or write properly, and teeming with mental illnesses and violent hatred.
You know, might surprise you to hear it from me, but you’re not entirely wrong! In fact, we have Exhibit A for that right here: Ovarit.
