Also, he despises Christmas partially because he was left alone during it as a child, not because his family didn’t celebrate. In fact one of his happy memories is being taken home by his sister to celebrate Christmas after his asshole father had a change of heart. And Fred, his nephew, celebrates Christmas. Well, that’s the neat part about human rights – as long as your choices don’t directly affect the rights of another conscious creature, nobody gets to infringe upon your freedom. Ending your own life is one of those choices you should be allowed to make for yourself, even if there should rightfully be some standards in place to make sure that’s what you really want. Smoking in public – bad for other people, therefore restricted. Smoking in your own home? Your business. Kill yourself with cigarettes if you really want to.

People need to be afforded the ability to make their own poor decisions and suffer the consequences. How else will they truly learn WHY they should make better decisions? Just as well, people need to be allowed to make ethically poor decisions… how else will they learn to be good? Also, who says that YOUR particular code of ethics is any better or truer than others?

And having a bunch of people interested in you is absolutely a privilege. You will know what it's like to go years without someone's touch. You will never know what it's like to have an accomplishment and no one to share it with. You will never have nights crying yourself to sleep because you know one will care if you killed yourself tonight. Okay, I can empathize with being horrified at the potential side-effects of medical intervention. What Uber fails to understand is that extreme medical treatments exist because the rewards outweigh the risks. They’re simply better than the alternative... CPR breaks ribs. Chemo is poison and kills good cells just as easily as cancerous ones. Brain surgery involves drilling a hole into someone’s head and poking around hoping you picked the correct spot and aren’t doing permanent damage to vision/mobility/language processing/etc. But all of those are life-saving measures and most sane people would never want to deny them to people in need. A bit late of a reply, but yes I totally agree with you. The patriarchy hurts everyone. Men being ridiculed for emotional availability or interests in “women’s work” is just another symptom of the problem.

Manchild – because women are supposed to grow up fast and take on the responsibilities of not only caring for themselves but also their partners and any children involved.

Manflu - because historically, women didn’t get a day off from household responsibilities or motherhood when they were mildly sick, or even VERY sick. We worked until our bodies gave out and we fainted or died.

Manspreading – because women are told to make ourselves small and take up as little space as possible to be modest and feminine.

Mansplaining – because a woman’s credentials and lived experience doesn’t matter as much as a man’s opinion.

Manhandling – this isn’t really a neologism, it’s from the 1830s and originally literally meant ‘to move via the strength of men’. The association with roughness though… that’s because women are either too weak to move a thing, or too ‘gentle’ to cause damage while doing so.

All of these are rooted in the fact that women have high standards to live up to and men DON’T. Therein you will find the issue. Women will stop creating derogatory terms about men when men stop being inconsiderate assholes who both devalue women’s accomplishments and achievements yet need us to do the slightest things for them anyway.

I didn’t love myself, so I was looking for someone who reminded me of my father, the person I knew would always unconditionally love me. Once I could accept myself more, I grew out of it. The man I eventually married is only two years older than me, and we have a good, much more equitable relationship. In contrast, one of the older men I met pulled a gun on me and threatened me for being too trusting. “Luckily” he just wanted to scare me, but he could have chosen to shoot me that day.

Old men have no reason to pursue barely legal women (or god forbid, young girls) except the sketchiness of taking advantage of someone with little to no experience and possible daddy issues.
