Obamacare, while definitely NOT perfect, made it so that insurance companies couldn’t screw us over quite as badly as they used to be able to. It made it so that insurance companies couldn’t fuck people like me over and not cover our “preexisting conditions” (or refuse to insure us outright). It made it so that insurance is much more affordable and reasonable with regard to coverage, copays, etc.

The Obama administration also oversaw the creation of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, which, while also definitely NOT perfect, protects us from abusive and predatory financial practices.

That’s just a couple I can think of. I know there’s more…

I’m so tired of seeing this word usage and its derivations. It’s just so wrong… a person is trans, they don’t get “trans-ed” by someone else. That’s giving others way too much credit and stealing the individual trans person’s agency. And, of course, that’s the point.

It reminds me of when I have come out as bi to certain people. Most people are accepting of me or don’t give a shit (and I'm fine with that). But then there’s those who immediately say “who told you that?” And the answer of course is “no one” but they never accept that. They usually respond with something like “well, then they told you when you were too young to remember”, thus negating my entire life and identity. To these people (including the TERFs above) we must just have been “innocent children” acted upon by some evil adult. And the whole “transed, transing,”, etc bullshit does just that in one word.

You are allowed to mock our identities and reduce them to “cocks going into bumholes” and we’re allowed to mock your bigoted belief system.

You act as though being Christian and being LGBTQ are mutually exclusive, but there are sects of Christianity that are accepting and don’t discriminate against marginalized groups. Those sects have LGBTQ members. Jesus’s words inform their lives - “do unto others as you would have them do unto you”, “he who is without sin may cast the first stone”, “judge not, that ye be not judged”, “thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself”.

Christianity, as Jesus would have it, isn’t what informs your life and unites you. Bigotry and fear are what seem to do that. They inform your life and unite you with other scared bigots.

How about… and I’m sure this will seem silly and irrelevant to any TERFs out there… instead of making a big deal out of this, maybe just leave this between the trans person and their family member? Because
1. It’s probably done out of honor. People usually don’t take the names of people they hate
2. The person whose name the trans person is “stealing” probably knows about it. It’s hard to “steal” a family member’s name and start going by that without the family member knowing.
3. Hopefully that family is ok with it! If they love their family member, they’re likely honored by it! But even if they’re not, it’s between them and their trans family member. It doesn’t have anything to do with y’all.
4. Using someone’s name does not have to be sexual! Ugh, y’all are the ones obsessed with trans people and underwear. Ick! Y’all have watched too much tv.

So, when cops used to raid gay bars (Stonewall, etc) they used to gather everyone they believed was crossdressing up, and after they’d let everyone else go, they’d “check” to see if the person wearing a skirt had the right genitalia to go with the skirt. They were supposed to stop doing this but of course it happens whenever a gender ambiguous person is arrested, etc. And now they want to do it to high school students - teenagers! - to see if their genitalia matches that of the bathroom/locker room they are entering.

And then TERFs joke about it like it never happens. How about the next time a trans person says anything to you, do some research before you pull out your “hilarious” one liners?

Technically the only rules for becoming POTUS are that you have to be at least 35 and born in this country.

The problem is that most Americans, politicians or not, don’t know that much about US history or how the government operates, etc. We used to have high school civics classes but now we don’t because certain groups decided they weren’t important and then lobbied school boards over many, many years to get rid of them (along with art and music and shop classes). So now, unfortunately, people don’t have that basic knowledge and so they are more likely to just believe what their favorite politician tells them.

Our history classes, even though we still have them, and the books that go with them, are abominable. They are designed not to discuss anything that might be controversial and because of that teach nothing and make history boring when it is anything but. Many of the books make it look like there was always a happy ending, like history is a fairy tale where the hero gets the girl instead of a what it should be - a study of the events that explain the world today and how it got that way. And unfortunately, as y’all here know well, it doesn’t always have a happy ending, or even an ending at all.

Unfortunately all of this works together to create a populace that is very malleable and vulnerable to propaganda and lies.

Yep. I work with dogs and don’t have kids - not because I dislike them at all but for a variety of other reasons. And yeah I think this person is an asshole. I mean, there are a lot of situations where entitled parents really should be more careful or kids are genuine assholes but this attitude obviously varies a lot. And while I wouldn’t say there are bad dogs, there are definitely bad owners and good owners. In other words, it’s an issue with a lot more nuance than dippity doo dah allows for.
